El objetivo general de este trabajo fue la busca de procesos de biorrefiner\u00eda eficaces en subproductos de la casta\u00f1a para la obtenci\u00f3n de biomol\u00e9culas con aplicaci\u00f3n en el campo alimentario.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La tesis, titulada&nbsp;<em>Application of the circular economy in the chestnut production cycle<\/em>, estuvo dirigida desde la Facultade de Ciencias por los catedr\u00e1ticos Jos\u00e9 Manuel Dom\u00ednguez y Nelson P\u00e9rez. Fue realizada bajo el amparo del proyecto Innobiorresiduos (en el que particip\u00f3 un consorcio de empresas como Extraco, Galaicontrol, Betanzos HB, Soutos Sativa, Indutec Ingenieros, Renga Enerx\u00eda, Ingenieros SLU y las universidades de Vigo y Santiago de Compostela).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Residuos o subproductos: ingredientes valorizables<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Costa, doctor por la Universidade de Vigo, egresado en Ciencias Ambientais y con el M\u00e1ster en Ciencia e Tecnolox\u00eda Agroalimentaria e Ambiental comenta que para reducir la contaminaci\u00f3n ambiental, el aprovechamiento adecuado de la biomasa lignocelul\u00f3sica surge como una alternativa a las fuentes no renovables, debido a su abundancia y composici\u00f3n rica en polisac\u00e1ridos y lignina, que la convierten en una excelente opci\u00f3n para generar productos de valor a\u00f1adido, como biocombustibles, biocompuestos y bioenerg\u00eda. En este contexto, a\u00f1ade, \u00ablas biorrefiner\u00edas son las plataformas en las que se transforma esta biomasa lignocelul\u00f3sica para obtener productos de valor a\u00f1adido\u00bb.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/EsquemaProcesosEstudados.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3103\" width=\"417\" height=\"365\" srcset=\"https:\/\/campusauga.uvigo.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/EsquemaProcesosEstudados.jpg 800w, https:\/\/campusauga.uvigo.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/EsquemaProcesosEstudados-300x263.jpg 300w, https:\/\/campusauga.uvigo.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/EsquemaProcesosEstudados-768x672.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 417px) 100vw, 417px\" \/><figcaption>Esquema de procesos estudiados<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>En su trabajo, el investigador del Grupo BiotecnIA\u00a0(Biotecnolox\u00eda Industrial e Enxe\u00f1ar\u00eda Ambiental) escogi\u00f3 como biomasa de estudio la del casta\u00f1o (<em>Castanea sativa<\/em>), \u00abun cultivo ampliamente distribuido en Europa, principalmente en los pa\u00edses mediterr\u00e1neos, siendo Espa\u00f1a uno de los mayores productores europeos, y en particular destacando Galicia\u00bb, donde es \u00abfuente de empleo y recursos econ\u00f3micos\u00bb. En este sentido, apunta Iv\u00e1n Costa, varios subproductos resultantes del procesado de la casta\u00f1a (hojas, poda, c\u00e1scaras y erizos) \u00abson candidatos de alto potencial para ser utilizados en un proceso de biorrefiner\u00eda y obtener compuestos de alto valor a\u00f1adido debido a su disponibilidad y bajo coste\u00bb. En particular, detalla, los erizos de casta\u00f1a \u00abson un subproducto poco explotado que se genera en grandes cantidades, ya que su producci\u00f3n puede superar entre 2,5 y 3 veces la producci\u00f3n de carne de casta\u00f1a\u00bb. Teniendo en cuenta que la producci\u00f3n mundial de casta\u00f1as supera los dos millones de toneladas anuales, indica el investigador, estos erizos se presentan como un candidato susceptible de ser
