The initiative combines scientific competition, path and previous collective experiences for focalizarse and create new skilled knowledge through the investigation of the complex biological interactions, physical and chemical. To the time designs forms to think, ideas and new technologies that help to promote a change of paradigm so much to level of the practice agroalimentaria how of the sectorial politics.
The final aim of the IAA is to convert Galicia in a European referent in agroecology and diet.
Lines of specialisation
It consists of four lines of specialisation:

- Quality and alimentary security
- Management and valorisation of resources

It is integrated by a total of 188 workers and workers, 152 of them of character researcher, forming part of 8 groups of investigation:
- Agrobiología Environmental: quality, soils and plants (BEV1).
- Biorrefinería And Valorisation of the Biomass (Bio2Val).
- Chemical engineering 4 (EQ4).
- Food and Health Omics (CF1).
- Group of Investigation in Systems Agroambientales (GISA).
- Agricultural and Alimentary investigations (AA1).
- Plant, Suelo and Aprovechamiento of By-products (BV1).
- Biotechnology and Quality in Industries Agroalimentarias and Environment (ByCIAMA).
- Nutrition and Food Group (NuFoG)
- Group of Enzymatic Technology and Bioestructuras (TEZE)
Location
The formal headquarters and main installations of the IAA are in the first plant of the Edifice Campus Auga, in the Campus of Ourense, occupying a surface of 629,20 m2, of which 350,90 correspond to 9 laboratories. Also they exist laboratories associated to the Institute in other parts of the Edifice of the Campus Auga, in the Polytechnical Edifice of Ourense or in the Facultade of Bioloxía in Vigo, in the which the personal researcher of the IAA develops a very important part of his work.
